“Work camp” Marolles en Hurepoix 09/07/07–27/07/2007
I’ve gone through this work camp, it was really great experience which helped me to meet new,
interesting people from various countries.
Just a little bit of work at an old cemetery and a lot of fun.
We’ve been repairing a mortuary, working with composite cement, cleaning walls - just for few hours a day. We’ve made several trips around Paris and in Paris itself too, e.g. Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Sacre-Coeur, Louvre, Vaux Le Vicomte, Versailles and so on. Three weeks of beautiful experience.

Union Nationale des Associations Régionales études ET chantiers
études ET chantiers was created in 1962 by several Youth movements working for non-violence through international co-operation and exchanges within the “Education Populaire” movement – a French concept meaning non-formal education.
We are committed to international voluntary service, in both the short and long term, through a world-wide network of 85 partner organisations in more than 60 countries.
Our “Union” (Unarec) consists of 4 regional organisations, with a national office in Paris:
EC-Idf: études ET chantiers Ile de France
ECL: études ET chantiers Lorraine
ECB: études ET chantiers Bretagne-Pays de Loire
ECec: études ET chantiers espace central
In 2003, volunteer projects restarted in Toulouse in the southwest of France with the creation of a local office.
Each regional organisation runs their own permanent projects independently, but they all work together on the workcamp programme which is co-ordinated at national and international level by the International Delegation in Clermont-Ferrand.
We organise around 70 international camps every year (and throughout the year) – some of them are for younger volunteers (14-17 years old).
The Project: The village of Marolles en Hurepoix will welcome you in order to encourage the meeting between the local youth and people from varied backgrounds. This workcamp is following the one which took place in 2005: the volunteers had renovated the Maison du Corbillard (hearse house).
Work: You will work on two different buildings: the Maison du Corbillard, for this work you will learn the technique of coating with apparent stones, and a shed made of bricks and tiles: you will have to renovate it and to repair the roof (laying of old roofing tiles, smooth coating).
On adult projects, volunteers work about 30 hours a week. Weekends are usually free but you might have to work on some weekends for various reasons.
Activities: when volunteers arrive, leaders will suggest several activities; however, your ideas are welcome and any suggestion will be considered. So be imaginative, a workcamp is a place for having fun! You are expected to take part in all activities, which are planned together with volunteers and leaders. Be ready for a group experience!
More info: The village of Marolles en Hurepoix is located in the Essonne department , on the plateau of the Hurepoix, between the Juine valley and the Orge, the Renarde and the Rémarde valleys.
You will discover the region: marshes, nature parks, the town of Paris (only one trip in the capital is planned) and many castles to visit in the surrounding area (Versailles, Vaux le Vicomte…)
The inhabitants organize a village dance on the 14th of July.
